It was with great sadness that the Commissioners learnt of the passing of Glen Mona resident Louise Smith at their May meeting. Chairman of the Commissioners, Mrs Fargher, noted that Louise had made an immense contribution to the management and upkeep of public areas in Maughold; giving many hours of her time for the benefit of the Parish.
Mrs Fargher said that the complete rejuvenation of the Arboretum that had occurred in recent years was a direct result of Louise's commitment, energy and leadership. The Commissioners agreed that Louise had been an inspiration to all and that she would be very much missed.
The clerk was asked to convey the sympathy of Members to Louise's husband, David, and sons, Robin and Rupert.

Improved Emergency Telecommunications Cover in the Bulgham and Dhoon Areas
Manx Telecom advise the Commissioners that the newly installed mobile communications mast at Bulgham Summit on the Maughold Lonan border will be operational in the coming weeks. This will serve the East Coast section of the A2 from around 'The Everlasting Corner' in the south over Bulgham and into the Dhoon area. Although the mast will cause some visual intrusion the presence of a mobile signal on this section of the A2 will now help to ensure that the emergency services can be promptly summoned should any unfortunate incidents arise in the vicinity
