New Chairman Selected
The Commissioners have elected Mr Mark Cowley as Chairman of the Commissioners for the forthcoming year. Mr John Quayle was elected as Vice-Chairman.
In her outgoing speech, Mrs Fargher, thanked Members for their hard work in the previous twelve months; noting that it had been a time when the government was placing increasing demands on local authorities and the pockets of ratepayers. She referred to the unannounced removal of the bus shelter in Glen Mona as an example of how government often failed to communicate effectively with communities. Mrs Fargher said that efforts must be made to help government improve its communication and links with the public. Mr Cowley outlined how he would approach the management of the business of meetings in the coming year, and stated that the Commissioners must be robust and pro-active in calling government to account when shortcomings in its performance were evident.
