Beach Buddies Scheme Set for July Launch
Beach Buddies will be installing beach cleaning receptacles at several Maughold Beaches in late July. The Commissioners have entered into a partnership with the organisation which will see the large bins being installed at Port Lewaigue, Port Mooar, and Cornaa. A smaller receptacle will also be installed to service Port e Vullen beach. The receptacles have bag dispensers to allow everyone to join in with keeping the beaches clean.

The initiative will be launched with a Big Beach Clean event at Port Mooar in late July. Full details will be announced in the coming days.

'Maughold Exchange' Official Opening at 2.00 pm this Saturday 27th June

The Commissioners now have ownership of the de-commissioned telephone box on the junction of Jacks Lane in Port e Vullen. The red box will be operated by Maughold Parish Social Club as a point of exchange – initially of books, small plants and trinkets and will be known as the “Maughold Exchange.”
The Social Club released the following on their recent newsletter:
In  the past a public telephone was an important point of communication – many of us  can remember queuing up outside such a telephone box and being frustrated by the person on the phone talking for  hours, perhaps to their girl or boyfriend, oblivious to those waiting outside.
We would like it to continue using “our” telephone box as a point of contact between us –whether we meet there or not – and to do this take our unwanted books, trinkets and surplus plants there where they can be collected and appreciated by another parishioner.

To celebrate this new Parish facility we are holding a “Grand Opening” on Saturday 27th June at 2.00 pm. This year’s Parish Queen  has kindly agreed to open the Exchange for us.

Please come and enjoy some tea and cake to celebrate this little bit of Parish History with us.

Commissioners Now Responsible for Hedge Cutting on Minor Roads
The Commissioners are now responsible for hedge cutting on minor roads in Maughold - The A2 Coast Road remains the responsibility of DoI.
Residents should note that legislation prevents cutting of most hedgerows prior to September the 1st, except for road safety reasons.
Please advise the Commissioners if overgrown vegetation is affecting visibility at road junctions at maughold@manx.net or on 422148.
Hedge cutting, street and gulley-pot cleaning will be carried out by the Commissioners in partnership with Laxey and Lonan through the Garff Joint Initiative.
