Bathing Water Quality at Port Lewaigue
The Bathing Water Quality results published by the Government Laboratory for 2008 indicate that Port Lewaigue received 'failed' readings on five occasions between May and October 2008; the period when coastal water quality is tested. As a consequence the Commissioners wrote to the DOT in May requesting that the proposed replacement works at Port Lewaigue be implemented as a matter of urgency.
In a reply to this correspondence the Director of Drainage advises the Commissioners that the final phases of the IRIS project are to be submitted for final Tynwald Approval in June. After this the Department will undertake discussion with the Commissioners about resolving the situation at Port Lewaigue. The Director reasserts the commitment of the Department to the cessation of raw sewage discharges in to the marine environment.
