Tynwald Debating Motions Which Will Impact Rate Charges
This week Tynwald will be debating a motion to transfer further charges onto the rates and motions regarding how local authorities deliver their services. There are several motions relevant to local authorities and increases in rates, including:
Recommendation 1, Principle 2
Services provided by Local Authorities should
be wholly funded by Local Authorities.
Recommendation 4
Working in partnership with Local Authorities,
the Department of Infrastructure and Department of Social Care will identify
services suitable for delivery through a revised Local Authority structure and
review how services can best be funded in the future.
Recommendation 5
The Council of Ministers
will set out proposals for reform of the two biggest areas of expenditure and
commonality in Local Authorities, which are housing and waste collection and
disposal activities, and report to Tynwald by Autumn 2013.
The Commissioners will be monitoring these discussions with interest.
