Some surprises in the Port Lewaigue Bird Ringing Report!!
The Maughold birds like to travel! Our Gulls get away to Spain and Portugal, and Cormorants from Maughold have been as far away as Hampshire and Aberdeen. Much more, including a copy of the report, on our Community and Clubs page.

Commissioners Rate Remains at 108p in the £ for the Coming Financial Year
The Commissioners have maintained the rate at £108p in the pound for the fourth year in succession. The separate Property Refuse Disposal Charge will rise due to the15% increase in tipping fees at the EfW plant. The latter charge will now be £36.03 per property and it is expected that it will rise rapidly in the coming years as Government transfers even more of the subsidy on tipping fees from general taxation to the rates.
New Northern Civic Amenity Site - Balladoole
The new CA Site is much more convenient for Maughold residents, being only a mile or two north of Ramsey on the Bride Road.

More Wind Farms in the Irish Sea?
The Commissioners are in receipt of further information on the Walney Wind Farm Extension which lies to the East of the Island. The UK government has also appointed Centrica Energy to put forward proposals for wind farms in an area designated as the Irish Sea Zone to the south west of the Island. Centrica will be hosting a presentation in Ramsey Town Hall on Tuesday February 21st between 2 and 8 pm. Further details are available from the Commissioners on 422148 or via maughold@manx.net.
Changes to Local Government - Mr Bell Spells Out His Intentions
During a recent Tynwald debate, Allan Bell, The Chief minister made the following statement:
I also hope, Madam President, in the life of this parliament we will
finally complete the reform of the Legislative Council and finally complete the reform of local
authorities...
The Commissioners await the coming months with great interest and are keen to engage with government to discuss ways of improving the quality and efficiency of services provided to the ratepayer. The comments of residents on the possibility of changes to local government would be warmly welcomed via maughold@manx.net.
William Kennish 150th Anniversary Commemoration
This March marks the Anniversary of the death of the great Maughold poet, inventor, scientist, engineer and explorer, William Kennish. More details of the achievements of William Kennish can be found by pressing control & clicking

To mark the occasion, Mr Bob Stimpson, author of a recently published study of Kennish has organised a commemoration at the memorial plaque on the Corony Bridge which is just above his birthplace. A wreath will be laid at the plaque and an address made in honour of Kennish.
