Michael Pfeiffer Memorial Bench Installed by Dhoon resident
A bench has been installed in the Dhoon Arboretum as a memorial to Michael Pfeiffer of the Gruseleck. Michael passed away last year and the bench has been provided by a resident of Dhoon.
The Gruseleck have become synonymous with the Dhoon Corner where they have set up camp during the festival since 1981.
The bench is sited just beyond the entrance to the Arboretum and faces down towards the Gruseleck camp. Why not have a wander up and a sit during this year's TT and remember Michael, a very likeable, warmly respected friend of the TT and the Isle of Man.
A German TT visitor who became well-known for camping at a spot in the north of the Island has died.

Michael Pfeifer headed up a group of German fans who've visited the festival every year since 1981.

They’re well-known among visitors and locals for their campsite on the corner of the Ballaragh Road in Laxey, known as Gruseleck.

58 year old Mr Pfeifer, from Duisburg, was killed in a motorcycle accident involving a truck last Thursday.

A statement on his website says he loved the Isle of Man and the motorbike fans he met – and asks friends to remember him as the “wonderful person he was.” - See more at: http://www.manx.net/isle-of-man-news/65467/well-known-tt-fan-killed#sthash.FEq0qfp0.dpuf

Mr Bell appears to seek control over local authority finances

Yesterday's Isle of Man Examiner carried an article which reported that Mr Bell would like his government to take close control of local authority finances.

The strategy described by Mr Bell would allow further charges for services to be transferred from income tax onto local rates as has already been done with domestic waste disposal charges and the 'sewerage tax'.

It would also lead to the loss of local accountability for ratepayers, who would have less say over the quality of services such as refuse collection.

The article in which Mr Bell sets out his enthusiasm for more centralised power can be read here.

A fence is currently being installed to keep them away from these trees. The work is being carried out over the next few days. The Commissioners apologise for any disturbance to the peace and tranquility of the area whilst these works are carried out.
