Commissioners set rate for YE 2014 in light of transfer of Tipping charge onto ratepayers
The rate for YE 2014 has been set at 96p in the £ with a separate property charge of £83.18. The 65% rise in tipping charges has caused the Commission to re-examine the separate property charge. The separate charge of £83.18 now covers the total cost of tipping at the Energy from Waste plant and the operational costs of the Civic Amenity site which are also rising markedly due to the increase in disposal charges. A further consequence is that the previous rate of 108p in the £ has been reduced by 12p to 96p in the £. The overall effect on the total Commissioners rate charges will mean that an average property will be paying approximately £25 more than this year.
The separation of refuse disposal and Civic Amenity Site costs from the general rate will allow ratepayers to keep a check on how much these services are costing. It is important to note that these costs can be reduced if more is recycled. In this respect, the Commissioners encourage all residents to recycle glass, paper and steel/aluminium tins at the bring banks; plastic can also be recycled at the Civic Amenity Site - see Recycling and Refuse page for further details.
